Engaged and Public humanities
2023 Capstone for the Interspaces
TAKE A TOURÂ
Why this Capstone?
The Interspaces was made in the Spring of 2023 through the communication and culture class as a part of the Engaged and Public Humanities Program.
At first, the idea of creating a real journal was difficult to grasp. We had a limited amount of time and knowledge as a class for this project to get done in a semester. We spent weeks as a collective determining which platform would host this journal.
Would we use a google doc for planning or a google site? How would that support a blog? Do we look for a more professional platform that is more difficult to learn?
It took back and forth planning within the tech committee and answering class hesitations for us to finally figure out our platform: Wordpress.
So why is this relevant?
We weren't equipped as a class to be able to ask and answer these questions honestly as a group.
And this is no one's fault: but we, as a society, don't do a good job preparing ourselves to do group work.
My goal for this capstone is for the ability for the next group to be able to acknowledge the importance of putting in the work for working documents to be made.
I could have made them myself.
But then we wouldn't have the diversity of thought and the buy-in needed for everyone to be equally invested.
So instead, this is a document outlining some of the ways that this journal can work.
Because it can only work well if we work well.

What to create
Outlined are some of these ideas and sources to recreate
Why Create Positions?
Why create positions ext.
This started as a class assignments, and will now (hopefully) turn into something bigger. Taking the chance to measure needs versus personnel will not only help balance the work but figure out what we will need in the future.
When we give titles or areas of expertise to individuals involve, we give them the right to ownership and pride for doing it themselves. Many of our classmates who took a step forward in leading an initiative or group felt more connected and confident in their skillsets at the end of our semester.
Allows for accountability
Be able to track what good work is being done and keep track of what isn't being done.
Constitution and Code of Conduct
Sources for constitution and code of conduct
This guide breaks down how other college-level groups create working documents. Although for clubs, this will be a great stepping stone document for the group to use.
Listen to this! We have an organizational structure (so far) that has varying levels of leadership. Learn more as to why it is more than just stepping up or leading a group.
Learn how to make a code of conduct. This document is remade and revisited every time the group changes. IT is meant to generate a group cohesion of values.
Assessment and Buy In
Assessment and Buy In
Tracking milestones is important to pinpoint when certain events happen for the journal. Check out this link for how to do so- ASANA is also a great tool to do task management.
This is a great opportunity for ENPH folks to be able to work (and validate) our own data. Learn how to create assessments and track data with this following document.
Whether this is required or not for class (a great topic for us to figure out), we have to try our best to get everyone invested in the work that they do.
